Introducing the All-New Mazda CX-50
Introducing the All-New Mazda CX-50
The Beautifully Capable 2023 Mazda CX-50
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a rugged, compact crossover designed for drivers who want to get closer to nature. This attractive SUV comes equipped with cargo-hauling roof rails, an elongated cargo floor, and plenty of space for outdoor gear like kayaks and rooftop tents.
Mazda differentiates the exterior styling with black plastic cladding around the wheel wells and rear bumpers. The automaker also adds standard all-terrain tires and underbody protection that comes on many other off-road SUVs. All trims will come standard with all-wheel drive, as the vehicle is the first-ever Mazda designed to take off-road.
Mazda Performance Designed for Off-Road Fun
Mazda equips the 2023 CX-50 with two engine options. The first is a standard 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, and the second is a turbocharged version of the same engine. Mazda will add a six-speed automatic transmission to both engine choices.
The turbocharged version should deliver 256 horsepower with 320 lb-ft of torque, while the standard engine should deliver 187 horsepower with matching torque. To meet the needs of drivers who want lower emissions, Mazda is expected to offer an electrified version in the near future.
Because the CX-50 is designed for people who enjoy spending their time outdoors, which is why Mazda gave it a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, like the capacity on the similarly sized CX-5. Other performance features include the SkyActiv technology like i-Activ AWD technology and Off-Road Traction Assist.
Mazda will also add the Intelligent Drive Select, known as Mi-Drive. Drivers who use this feature can choose settings that give the CX-50 better traction when towing or cruising on off-road terrain. The Mi-Drive settings include Sport, Towing, and Off-Road. They rely on torque vector shifting to move power to and from the front and rear axle.
Loaded with Technology and Safety Features
Mazda is expected to release more details and the first models in Spring 2022. Mazda will equip the CX-50 with features similar to those in the CX-5, but with rugged outdoor styling. The standard safety features include Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Dynamic Stability Control with Stop & Go, Lane Departure Warning System with Lane Keep Assist, and Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection.
The interior tech features include either an 8.8-inch or 10.25-inch infotainment system with a standard four-speaker audio system. The entertainment features include Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB ports.
Luxury features also include a dual-zone climate control system with pollen control. The top trims will also have a premium sound system with additional speakers. Available features on the top trims include wireless smartphone charging, navigation, and a head-up display.
Impressive Specs and Several Trims to Choose From
Mazda is expected to release the CX-50 in ten trims, from the Base to the Turbo Premium Plus. The CX-50 will be the first rugged SUV from the automaker that is better known for its refined vehicles, like the Miata and CX-30. The trims on the CX-50 range from basic to luxurious. Mazda will include the turbo engine on four trims, including the Turbo, Meridian Edition, Turbo Premium, and the top Turbo Premium Plus.
The CX-50 is similar in size to the CX-5, but will be slightly longer and wider with a bit more intentionally designed cargo space. The specs also include seating for five with a recognizable Mazda dash with a touchscreen and center-console control knob. Buyers who choose the top trims will get the first-ever Mazda panoramic sunroof along with luxurious leather seating. Other standard features on the CX-50 include LED headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels.
